Setsubun
Setsubun is coming soon! Setsubun(February 3rd) is one of Japanese cultures which sweep bad things in house and pray to let happiness into the house. Japanese people throw soybeans in all rooms in the house and say, "Oni wa soto", which means, "Go out ogre!" and "Fuku wa uchi" which means, "Come inside happiness!" ...I'm definitely not good at translating but maybe..it's ok. After throwing beans, you have to eat the same number of soybeans as your age. For example, now I'm 20 so I have to eat 20 soybeans. If you are 90, you have to eat 90 soybeans. If you didn't eat them, it is said happiness won't come in the year or you would be unhealthy in that year.In some house, people decide an oni(ogre)/onis among their family and other people throw soybeans towards the oni. In Hokkaido, people throw peanuts instead of soybeans. In my house, we throw chocolates and candies with peanuts. Many people might have other traditions. How will you spend the Setsubun Day this year??

Wow! Chocolates and candies with peanuts?? What a sweet Setsubun tradition you have! I would eat more numbers of sweets than my age if I did Setsubun in this style. Don't forget to eat 'maki-sushi' in 2/3! It's also a traditional style.

I wish people would throw food at me! But then I wouldn't go away...
